Blu-Ray Technology

Blu-Ray, also known as Blu-Ray Disc is an optical disk format developed by Blu-Ray Disc Association, and a group of leading electronic manufactures.

The Blu-Ray technology was designed for recording, rewriting, and playback of high definition video.

The format was also developed for storing large amounts of data. Compared to the traditional DVD the storing capacity of Blu-Ray Disc is over 5 times greater. This extra capacity offers the consumer a high definition video experience that is unparalleled.

Blu-Ray Disc is so named for the technology involved. Traditional optical disc technology uses a red laser to read and write data while the Blu-Ray uses a blue-violet laser.

The major difference between the two is the wave length.

The Blue laser has a shorter wave length and therefore the focus is more precise allowing theBlu-Ray data to be more condensed on the disc.

Blu-Ray technology is available in nearly 200 electronics including personal computers, recordable media, music and video games.

The movie industry has given Blu-Ray technology the popularity and attention it is now seeing.

The most popular movie producers including Fox, Paramount and Disney are using Blu-Ray technology.

Movie

Blu-Ray technology gives movie goers an experience that is unparalleled. Blu-Ray movies offer the moviegoer higher definition video and audio and an interactive experience.

Since Blu-Ray has a much larger storage capacity it has the ability to offer a level of definition that is simply unobtainable elsewhere.

Although the Blu-Ray disc looks much the same as the standard DVD it is far more resistant to scratches and fingerprints and makes this media a good choice for movie collecting families.

The extra storage capacity of the Blu-Ray disc also means the movie can have more special features and interactive features on one disc.

This gives the consumer the benefits of added content and the industry the benefits of extra advertising, broadcasts and special events.

Blu-Ray technology utilizes the high definition that is sweeping the world. Blu-Ray technology offers up to six times the definition of standard resolution and with today’s high definition televisions and monitors to support the technology the family movie night can be a real experience

Media and software

Blu-Ray Disc technology uses Java to implement interactive menus on all Blu-Ray Discs which is substantially different from what is used on the standard DVD. The DVD technology is more primitive and offers less seamless interaction.

With the Java software in the Blu-Ray Disc people are able to add updates and content to their Blu-Ray Discs using the internet. Content such as promotional features and subtitle languages are able to be added after the disc is purchased.

Players and Recorders

Blu-Ray Disc players and recorders are advancing continuously since they were first designed and began mass production.

Today it is recommended for all Blu-Ray Disc drives to be backward compatible and play all DVDs and CDs. Early on the Blu-Ray Disc drives would only play DVDs; however, as the technology grows nearly all players will play DVDs, CDs and the Blu-Ray Discs.

This is advantageous to the manufacturer as consumers want assurance they will be able to have one player for their existing media.

Blu-Ray Disc recordable are available and work to improve the recording speed is still being implemented. Currently Blu-Ray recordable are available in single recording and rewritable’s and the drives are available for computers.
